ATA Interstate Discussion Group

The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) Interstate Telehealth Discussion Group

In 2004 the Four Corner states; Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, formed a Telehealth Consortium (FCTC) to address interstate cross jurisdictional issues. In 2013, FCTC became a Discussion Group of the American Telemedicine Association. Now, we have expanded our efforts nationally and became the newly approved Interstate Telehealth Special Discussion Group (DG) that more broadly represents ATA membership with an interest in interstate activities, policies, and regulations. The Interstate Telehealth DG creates a forum for national interstate communication, cooperation, coordination and potential collaboration in telehealth among the states. This provides a network for sharing of knowledge and experiences related to telehealth within the national community addressing individual state’s development and use of telehealth, as well as cross-border initiatives addressing a spectrum of health issues both regional and global, respectful of each state’s needs, capabilities, and perspectives. This DG allows the membership to work closely with the ATA Staff regarding interstate initiatives. This is particularly timely as many states look toward interstate programs and collaboration. If the initiative is successful, the Interstate Telehealth Discussion Group will petition ATA to become a formal Special Interest Group (SIG).
